Government
Documents
The Reading
Public Library is a congressionally
designated depository for U.S. Government
documents. Public access to the government
documents collection is guaranteed by public
law (Title 44 United States Code).
The Reading Public Library has been a
selective depository of government documents
since 1901. Professional library staff
select government publications that are
known or believed to be useful to the
general public, and to special interest
groups such as students and business people.
Since 1996, electronic records of many
documents have been downloaded into the
ALIN system, making government
publications as accessible to the public as
other library materials through the online
catalog.
The Government Printing Office also makes
some documents available via the Internet
through GPO Access.
